Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC maintained their position at the top of Group B in the CAF Champions League following a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Morocco’s AS FAR Rabat on Friday night at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium.
The match began with both teams displaying cautious play, but the hosts had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 37th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Captain Mohamed Hrimat stepped up, but his effort was saved by Al Ahly’s goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir, who dived to his right to keep the score level.
However, AS FAR capitalized on the rebound, with Mouhcine Bouriga reacting quickly to slot the ball into the net, giving the Moroccan side a 1–0 lead.
Al Ahly responded in the second half, increasing their attacking pressure. Their efforts paid off in the 68th minute when Mohamed Ben Romdhane delivered a precise cross into the box, which was met by Mahmoud ‘Trézéguet’ Hassan, who headed the ball past the AS FAR goalkeeper to equalize.
The draw leaves both Al Ahly and AS FAR with four points each in Group B, sharing the lead with Tanzania’s Young Africans (Yanga), who also have four points. JS Kabylie of Algeria trails with one point.
