Cameroon international Vincent Aboubakar has stirred up fresh debate in African football circles after stating that Tammy Abraham would thrive more than Victor Osimhen in a team like Galatasaray.
The veteran striker made the comments during an appearance on Turkish journalist Ertem Şener’s YouTube show, where he was asked to weigh in on strikers like Mauro Icardi, Osimhen, and Abraham.
Aboubakar responded with a surprising take:
> “Based on the football they play, Tammy Abraham. Because he knows football well. The team needs to use the player well. If he can’t score, you need to improve around him. Since Galatasaray works well, Osimhen scores goals. Put Abraham in Galatasaray, he’d score a lot. He’d play better than Osimhen.” [1]
His remarks quickly went viral, igniting passionate reactions from fans, especially given Osimhen’s rise as one of the best strikers in world football—having won the Serie A golden boot and placing 8th in the 2023 Ballon d’Or.
While some have criticized the comparison, others agree with Aboubakar’s broader point: that a striker’s success can often depend heavily on the system and support around him.
