Egypt Edges Nigeria 2–1 in Pre-AFCON Friendly as Zizo Shines

In their final warm-up match ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Egypt secured a 2–1 victory over Nigeria at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday evening. The match served as a crucial test for both teams as they fine-tuned their preparations for the upcoming tournament in Morocco.

Both sides were without their star forwards, Mohamed Salah for Egypt and Victor Osimhen for Nigeria, but the encounter remained competitive. Egypt took the lead in the 28th minute when Ahmed Sayed, known as Zizo, delivered a precise cross that Mahmoud Saber converted with a right-footed finish from close range.

Nigeria responded just before halftime. In stoppage time, Zaidu Sanusi’s free kick struck the post, and Chidozie Awaziem capitalized on the rebound to head home the equalizer.

The Pharaohs regained the lead in the 53rd minute. Zizo once again played a pivotal role, setting up Mostafa Mohamed, who finished clinically to make it 2–1. Despite Nigeria’s efforts to find another equalizer, Egypt held firm to secure the win.

With the friendly now behind them, all eyes are on the AFCON showdown! The Super Eagles are set to jet off to Fés, Morocco, on Thursday, boarding a chartered flight that carries the weight of Nigerian pride. In the historic city, the squad will dive into intense final preparations, fueling the fire for a thrilling campaign.
