GFA President Closes Door on Dual Nationals Who Previously Rejected Ghana

By Rasheed Adewuyi, New York

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has announced that foreign-born players who previously snubbed invitations to represent Ghana will not be considered for the Black Stars’ squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking during a recent appearance on TV3 in Accra, Okraku stated unequivocally that the national team will only feature players who have demonstrated genuine commitment to Ghana, warning that the door is now shut to latecomers who once disregarded the call to wear the national colours.

“If you were born abroad and you’re indecisive or you look down on Ghana, Otto Addo will not pick you. I don’t want machineries in our team,” Okraku said, referring to players seen as opportunists.

He stressed that the GFA will not accommodate players looking to “jump on the ship” only because Ghana has now secured World Cup qualification. “The door will be closed on you if you had disrespected the yellow, red and green colours with the Black Star in the past,” he said.
