Isak Faces Two-Month Layoff After ‘Reckless’ Tackle, Says Slot

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak is expected to be sidelined for approximately two months after suffering a fractured leg during the Reds’ 2–1 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur. The injury occurred when Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven made a late challenge as Isak scored Liverpool’s opening goal.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot described Van de Ven’s tackle as “reckless,” expressing his disappointment over the incident. “It’s going to be a long injury, for a couple of months,” Slot said. “So, yeah, that’s a big, big, big disappointment for him. And as a result also of course for us.”

Van de Ven has since apologized to Isak, stating that he had no intention of causing harm and was attempting to block the shot. Tottenham manager Thomas Frank defended his player, asserting that the challenge was a natural defensive action and not reckless.

Isak, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle United for a club-record £125 million in September, underwent successful surgery on Monday. The injury is a significant setback for both the player and the club, as Isak had begun to find form after a challenging start to his Liverpool career.

With Isak sidelined, Liverpool will rely more heavily on other attacking options, including Hugo Ekitiké, who has scored eight Premier League goals this season. The team also faces additional challenges, with key players such as Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Conor Bradley currently unavailable.

Liverpool currently sits fifth in the Premier League and will look to maintain their title challenge despite the mounting injury concerns.
