Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi marked a significant personal milestone during Nigeria’s 3–2 victory over Tunisia at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Scoring his first senior international goal, Ndidi celebrated by emulating Nwankwo Kanu’s iconic gesture, a tribute inspired by his father’s admiration for the Nigerian football legend.
“I just remembered my dad. My dad always talks about Kanu,” Ndidi shared post-match. “I had seen the video and said I would do that one for my dad.”
The goal, a header from an Ademola Lookman corner, extended Nigeria’s lead in the second half. Ndidi described the moment as “really special,” noting the decade-long wait to find the net for the national team.
The victory secured Nigeria’s place in the knockout stages of the tournament. Ndidi emphasized the importance of maintaining focus: “We still have the next game to play and we cannot relax. We go back to the drawing board, see our mistakes, and improve.”
Reflecting on the team’s base in Fes, Ndidi expressed appreciation for the city’s hospitality and downplayed concerns about fatigue from the intense match, stating that such physical demands are normal at this level of competition.
Looking ahead, Nigeria will face Uganda in their final group-stage match, aiming to build on their momentum as they progress in the tournament.
