Manchester United has confirmed that captain Bruno Fernandes’ official X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked, prompting the club to warn fans not to engage with any posts or direct messages from the compromised profile.
The security breach occurred on Sunday night, shortly after Manchester United’s 2–1 FA Cup defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, which saw the Red Devils eliminated from the competition. The hacked account, followed by more than 4.5 million users, began publishing uncharacteristic and bizarre messages, many of which were later deleted.
In an official response from the club’s verified account, Manchester United stated: Bruno Fernandes’s X account has been hacked. Supporters should not engage with any of the posts or direct messages.”
Reports indicate that the rogue posts included cryptocurrency‑related content, references to club ownership, and other unrelated and provocative messages that were not authored by Fernandes.
The club’s notice to fans underscores the importance of cybersecurity for public figures, especially in the immediate aftermath of a difficult night for United following their FA Cup exit.
Supporters are advised to disregard any content from the compromised account until control has been fully restored and official communication resumes through verified club or player channels.
