Ghana’s Stella Nyamekye Seals Move to Norwegian Club SK Brann

By Kazeem Ajibola Shoyebo

Ghana Black Queens midfielder Stella Nyamekye has completed a permanent transfer from NJ/NY Gotham FC of the United States to Norwegian top-flight side SK Brann Kvinner, signing a contract that runs until June 2028. The move was confirmed by both clubs on Tuesday for an undisclosed fee, subject to the clearance of her International Transfer Certificate.

Nyamekye, 20, spent part of last season on loan at Fort Lauderdale United in the USL Super League — where she made 14 appearances, scoring once and registering two assists — before returning to Gotham FC earlier this year.

In announcing the transfer, Gotham FC’s General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West lauded Nyamekye’s development during her time with the club and expressed pride in seeing her take the next step in her career. “This move gives her the opportunity to step into a new environment and continue building on that growth,” she said.

Upon joining Brann, Nyamekye explained her decision: “I chose Brann because I believe in the project, and it will give me the best opportunity for my development and playing experience.” She described the Norwegian club as a team “fighting for several titles,” adding that she can contribute with creativity, ball control and attacking threat in the final third.

Brann’s sporting director Lars Johan Myklebust also welcomed the signing, expressing confidence in Nyamekye’s potential. “Stella is a player we have great faith in,” Myklebust said, highlighting her technical ability and suitability for the club’s style of play. The Ghana international is currently with the Black Queens at the 2026 Pink Ladies Cup in the United Arab Emirates, where she scored in Ghana’s emphatic 4-0 win over Russia.

Nyamekye began her career with Dreamz Ladies FC in Ghana before moving to Gotham FC ahead of the 2025 National Women’s Soccer League season. At just 20 years old, she has already earned multiple caps for Ghana’s senior national team and is viewed as one of the rising talents in African women’s football.
