Uncertainty continues to surround the venue for the next edition of the Finalissima after a high-level meeting between UEFA, CONMEBOL and the Qatari government ended without a final agreement.
According to Argentine journalist Gastón Edul, discussions held on Thursday failed to confirm a host venue for the match, with Qatar reportedly unwilling to relinquish staging rights due to an existing commercial agreement tied to the event.
The Finalissima pits the champions of Europe against the winners of South America’s continental championship. The upcoming edition is expected to feature Argentina national football team, winners of the 2024 Copa América, against Spain national football team, champions of the UEFA Euro 2024.
While Qatar has emerged as a potential host due to its existing sports infrastructure and commercial partnerships, negotiations remain ongoing as governing bodies consider logistical, financial and scheduling factors.
Officials from UEFA and CONMEBOL are expected to hold further discussions in the coming days, with a final decision on the venue anticipated next week.
The match would follow the revival of the intercontinental fixture in 2022, when Argentina defeated Italy national football team 3–0 at Wembley Stadium to lift the trophy.
