Joan Laporta has been re‑elected as president of FC Barcelona, securing a decisive victory in the March 2026 club elections, but rival candidate Víctor Font used his concession speech to highlight what he described as a “vision” for the club that goes beyond first‑team success.
Font, whose campaign stressed long‑term institutional goals and broader development across Barça’s sporting departments, said that though disappointed to lose, his efforts reflected a commitment to a cause he believes will grow in influence over time.
“We are disappointed to lose, but we did it through a noble cause,” Font said. “We want to look further away in every category, not just the football first team. We have a vision for Barça, and we hope to one day make it true.” Font’s comments came shortly after Laporta’s comprehensive election victory, in which he captured around 68% of the vote from Barca’s eligible socios.
Laporta’s re‑election ensures continuity at the helm of the club, which remains one of the world’s most globally recognised sporting institutions and one of the few major football clubs governed democratically by its members.
The election campaign featured spirited debate and contrasting views about the club’s future direction. While Laporta emphasised stability, recent achievements and economic initiatives, Font spoke about a more expansive future that he believes should embrace deeper engagement with youth development, wider sporting success and structural governance reforms.
As Barcelona moves forward under Laporta’s leadership, Font’s remarks reflect a broader conversation among many supporters about what direction the club should pursue — and how its unique member‑owned model can evolve to meet new challenges in football and beyond.
