The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) has welcomed the CAF Appeal Board’s decision on the AFCON 2025 final, stating that the ruling reinforces respect for competition regulations and ensures stability in African football.
In an official statement, the Moroccan federation said the verdict aligns with its long-standing position calling for the strict application of the rules governing the tournament, following the controversial interruption of the final.
“Following the decision delivered by the CAF Appeals Committee, the FRMF wishes to welcome a decision that aligns with respect for the rules and the stability necessary for the proper organisation of international competitions,” the statement read.
The federation emphasized that from the onset of the incident, its position had been consistent—not to challenge the sporting outcome, but to ensure that regulations were applied correctly.
“From the very first incidents that led to the interruption of the match, the FRMF made known and consistently reiterated its request: the strict application of the regulations governing the competition,” it added.
CAF’s ruling, according to the FRMF, confirms that the regulations—known and applicable to all participating teams—were not respected in the circumstances surrounding the final.
The FRMF highlighted its adherence to due process throughout the dispute, noting that it:
-
Submitted formal conclusions
-
Participated in hearings
-
Acted within the framework of competition regulations
The federation maintained that its actions were aimed at protecting both its rights and the integrity of the competition.
The Moroccan body further stated that the decision clarifies the regulatory framework for similar cases and strengthens the credibility of international competitions, particularly in African football under the Confederation of African Football.
Looking ahead, the FRMF confirmed it will continue to advocate for fair and consistent application of rules, while shifting focus to upcoming tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup and the Women’s AFCON later this year.
The federation also commended all nations that participated in the tournament, describing AFCON 2025 as a significant moment for African football despite the controversy.
