Inter Toronto Sign Off With 2–1 Win as Altobelli Strikes Late Against Atlético Ottawa

Inter Toronto closed their 2026 Canadian Premier League campaign with a 2–1 victory over Atlético Ottawa at York Lions Stadium on Sunday, October 25, finishing the season on a positive note despite having already been eliminated from playoff contention.

Ariel Almagro opened the scoring in the 36th minute before Julian Altobelli doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 90th minute. Atlético Ottawa responded through Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau’s penalty in the seventh minute of stoppage time, but Inter held on to claim all three points.

Almagro’s opener came after Inter began the match on the front foot. The Ecuadorian forward finished clinically to reward the hosts’ positive start and give them a 1–0 lead before the interval.

Inter continued to threaten after the break, while Ottawa sought an equaliser ahead of their upcoming playoff campaign. The decisive moment arrived in the 90th minute when Altobelli, returning from a lengthy injury layoff, produced a superb finish from the edge of the box to make it 2–0.

Ottawa were handed a late opportunity to respond when Jason Brown brought down Chateau inside the penalty area. Chateau converted from the spot in the 90+7th minute, but the goal came too late to prevent the visitors from suffering defeat.

The result offered Inter a positive conclusion to a difficult season. Although they entered the fixture out of playoff contention, the win—combined with Halifax’s defeat to FC Supra du Québec—helped them finish sixth in the final standings.

Atlético Ottawa, meanwhile, had already secured third place before kick-off and were able to turn their attention to the postseason. They are set to face Forge FC in a two-legged semifinal, with the first leg scheduled for November 1 in Ottawa.

The match also came with Inter head coach Mauro Eustáquio absent from the touchline while completing a UEFA coaching licence as José Cruz as the stand-in.

Inter’s campaign is now over, but their final-day performance gave supporters a home victory to close the season, while Ottawa will look to regroup quickly before their playoff challenge.
