Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2–1 at the Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice to hand José Mourinho a landmark victory and end the Catalans’ perfect start to the La Liga season.
Mbappé struck in the 41st minute and delivered the decisive goal in the 87th after Raphinha had brought Barcelona level, securing three valuable points for Madrid in the first Clásico of the 2026–27 campaign.
The victory also gave Real Madrid the lead in the all-time Clásico win count. Both sides had entered the encounter with 106 victories apiece, but Madrid’s success moved them ahead with 107 wins in the historic rivalry.
Madrid took control in the first half when Mbappé capitalised on a defensive miscue to put the visitors ahead. Barcelona improved after the interval and drew level in the 61st minute, with Raphinha finishing a move created by Pedri.
The hosts pressed for a second goal, but Madrid remained dangerous on the counterattack. Eduardo Camavinga helped create the opening for Mbappé’s late winner, which settled a fiercely contested encounter.
The result ended Barcelona’s run of nine consecutive league victories to start the campaign and tightened the title race. Barcelona remained top with 27 points, while Atlético Madrid sat second on 25 and Real Madrid moved to 24 after 10 matches.
For Mourinho, the win marked his return to the Clásico spotlight as Madrid manager for the first time since 2013. His side’s disciplined approach and clinical finishing proved decisive against a Barcelona team that had arrived unbeaten in the league.
Madrid’s victory not only delivered bragging rights but also reduced the gap to their rivals to three points, leaving the Spanish title race finely poised early in the season.
