AFCON 2025: Senegal Beat Egypt to Reach Final as Mané’s Late Goal Decides Thriller

Senegal secured their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final with a 1–0 victory over Egypt in the semi‑final on Wednesday in Tangier, thanks to a match‑winning strike by Sadio Mané late in the second half. The Teranga Lions will now contest the continental showpiece after a tense battle against the Pharaohs.

In a match dominated by tactical caution and few clear chances, Mané found the decisive breakthrough in the 78th minute, curling a low strike past Egypt’s goalkeeper to settle the encounter. The 1–0 scoreline means Senegal advance to Sunday’s final, where they will face the winner of the Nigeria vs Morocco semi‑final.

Senegal controlled much of the possession but found it difficult to break down Egypt’s organised defence for long periods. It was Mané’s quality and experience that proved decisive, as he capitalized on a rare opening to fire Senegal into the final.

The victory continues Senegal’s strong run in the tournament and underscores Mané’s status as a talismanic figure for his national team, consistently delivering in high‑pressure moments. With this win, Senegal’s hopes of lifting the AFCON trophy are now very much alive as they prepare for the championship decider later this week.
