Akor Adams emerged as Sevilla’s hero with a dramatic stoppage-time winner as the Spanish side fought back to defeat RCD Espanyol 2-1 in a tense La Liga survival clash.
The Nigerian striker came off the bench to deliver the decisive blow deep into added time, securing a massive victory that moved Sevilla FC three points clear of the relegation zone and reignited belief among supporters at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.
Espanyol looked on course for a crucial away victory after taking the lead midway through the second half through Tyrhys Dolan, leaving Sevilla facing another damaging defeat in their difficult campaign.
But Sevilla responded with urgency and intensity as the match entered its closing stages, with fellow Nigerian international Chidera Ejuke playing a key role in the comeback.
Ejuke repeatedly troubled Espanyol’s defence with his pace, direct dribbling and attacking movement, helping Sevilla push the visitors deeper inside their own half as pressure mounted.
The hosts eventually found a late equaliser before Adams produced the defining moment of the night in stoppage time, calmly finishing to complete the turnaround and spark wild celebrations around the stadium.
The goal continued Adams’ growing influence since arriving in Spain, with the striker increasingly becoming a vital figure in Sevilla’s battle to avoid relegation.
The victory also marked another strong outing for Nigerian players in La Liga, with both Adams and Ejuke delivering standout performances during one of Sevilla’s most important matches of the season.
With only a handful of games remaining, Sevilla’s dramatic comeback could prove decisive in their fight to secure survival and maintain their place in Spain’s top flight.
