Super Eagles striker Akor Adams continued his excellent run of form with a pivotal goal as Sevilla came from behind to beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1 in La Liga action at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium on Saturday. Sevilla, who had trailed going into halftime, showcased resilience and attacking intent to overturn the deficit and secure all three points.
Athletic Bilbao took the lead just before halftime when **Robert Navarro** finished off a promising move in the 40th minute, putting the visitors ahead and giving them momentum heading into the break.
Sevilla responded early in the second half and were awarded a penalty when Athletic’s Yuri Berchiche was judged to have handled the ball inside the area. Adams stepped up with composure, calmly converting from 12 yards with Unai Simón guessing the wrong way to draw the hosts level and record his sixth La Liga goal of the season.
The Nigerian forward has been in outstanding form since returning from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he featured prominently for the Super Eagles. His goal against Athletic continued a purple patch, taking his La Liga tally to six in the campaign and underlining his importance to Sevilla’s attacking output.
Sevilla completed their comeback through Peque Fernández, whose well-timed strike earlier in the second half ensured the hosts turned the game in their favour and claimed a vital victory.
The win provides a significant boost for Sevilla as they look to climb the La Liga table, while Athletic Bilbao will rue missed opportunities after dominating large portions of the first half. The victory also extends Sevilla’s positive momentum and highlights Adams’s growing influence as one of the league’s most dangerous forwards.
