Alphonso Davies produced an impressive all-round performance for Bayern Munich as the Canadian defender helped the German giants begin their 2026/27 UEFA Champions League campaign with a commanding 5–0 victory over Bodø/Glimt at the Allianz Arena.
Davies started at left-back and played 80 minutes before being replaced by Hiroki Ito, but he made a significant contribution at both ends of the pitch, including scoring Bayern’s third goal of the night.
With Bayern leading 2–0 through Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane, Davies produced the moment that effectively killed off Bodø/Glimt’s resistance in the 77th minute. Following a corner that the Norwegian side failed to clear properly, the Canadian collected the loose ball and unleashed a powerful left-footed half-volley into the net.
The goal was particularly significant for Davies, who has been working his way back to his best level following his long-term ACL injury. His performance against Bodø/Glimt was subsequently highlighted by Bayern-focused analysis as evidence of improving form and greater confidence following his return.
Davies was also involved in a Bayern defence that kept a clean sheet despite Bodø/Glimt enjoying periods of resistance in the opening half. Bayern dominated the match territorially but went into the interval without a goal, before Musiala opened the scoring two minutes after the restart. Kane then doubled the advantage in the 61st minute from a delivery by Michael Olise.
Davies’ goal opened the floodgates further. Olise scored twice in the closing stages to complete the 5–0 victory, with Bayern eventually turning a difficult first half into a comprehensive European statement.
The Canadian’s contribution is also important in the context of Bayern’s competition for places at full-back. His return to the starting XI and attacking contribution provide Vincent Kompany with another dynamic option as Bayern balance their domestic campaign with their Champions League ambitions. Kompany has also pointed to Davies’ reintegration into the squad as one of the positive developments around the team.
For Davies, the performance represented more than simply another Champions League appearance. A goal, a strong defensive display and 80 minutes of competitive action offered further evidence that the 25-year-old is regaining his influence for Bayern after his injury setback.
Bayern’s 5–0 victory therefore provided an ideal European start, while Davies emerged from the night with one of the most notable individual performances of the evening.
