Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has once again left Neymar out of the national team squad, citing concerns over the forward’s fitness as the five-time world champions prepare for upcoming international friendlies.
The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed the squad on Monday, with stars such as Vinícius Júnior, Raphinha and Gabriel Martinelli included, but Neymar absent despite growing speculation about a possible return.
Speaking about the decision, Ancelotti explained that the exclusion was purely based on physical readiness rather than ability.
“He can participate in the World Cup if he is fully fit,” Ancelotti said. “Why didn’t I call him up now? Because he is not fully fit, and we need players at full fitness.”
The coach added that the door remains open for the Brazilian superstar but insisted selection will depend on performance and condition in the coming months.
“Neymar must continue working, playing, showing his abilities, and maintaining his physical condition.”
Brazil’s squad reflects a mix of experienced internationals and emerging talents as the team continues preparations for the next major tournaments. Teenage striker Endrick and Brentford forward Igor Thiago are among the attacking options selected alongside established names.
Neymar, Brazil’s all-time leading scorer, has struggled with injuries since suffering a serious knee injury in 2023 and has not played regularly for the national team during his recovery period.
The Selecão will face European opposition in upcoming friendlies in the United States as Ancelotti continues shaping the squad ahead of the next international competitions.
