Awaziem Brace Fires Konyaspor to Victory Over GençlerbirliğI

Chidozie Awaziem delivered a match-winning performance for Konyaspor on Sunday, scoring both goals in a 2–0 Turkish Süper Lig victory over Gençlerbirliği. The Nigeria international struck in the 43rd and 56th minutes to help Konyaspor secure three points in their ninth league fixture of the 2026–27 season.

Nigeria international Chidozie Awaziem scored twice as Konyaspor defeated Gençlerbirliği 2–0 in the Turkish Süper Lig on Sunday, October 25, ending their three-match wait for a league victory.

The Super Eagles defender opened the scoring in the 43rd minute before doubling his tally in the 56th minute to seal the victory at the MEDAŞ Konya Büyükşehir Stadium.

Awaziem broke the deadlock late in the first half after Jean-Luc Dompé’s delivery from the left was brought into his path by Deniz Türüç, allowing the Nigerian to finish and give the hosts a deserved lead.

He struck again 13 minutes into the second half, reacting to a corner delivered by Enis Bardhi to put Konyaspor firmly in control at 2–0.

Gençlerbirliği had an opportunity to reduce the deficit in the 75th minute after being awarded a penalty, but Konyaspor goalkeeper Bahadır Güngördü saved Franco Tongya’s spot-kick to preserve the two-goal advantage.

The victory lifted Konyaspor to eight points, level with Gençlerbirliği, and provided a timely boost as they look to improve their position in the league standings.

For Awaziem, the brace was a significant contribution from a defender, whose goals proved decisive in securing all three points for his side.

Konyaspor will next host Galatasaray, while Gençlerbirliği are scheduled to welcome Alanyaspor as the Turkish top flight continues.
