Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi earned Man of the Match recognition from both the Premier League and Hull City after producing an impressive defensive display in the Tigers’ 1–1 draw against Brentford on Sunday.
Ajayi anchored Hull’s defence at the MKM Stadium, making crucial blocks and interceptions as the hosts held off Brentford’s attacking threat to secure a point in their Premier League encounter.
Hull took the lead in the 24th minute when Oliver McBurnie converted a penalty after Aaron Hickey brought down Tim Iroegbunam inside the box.
Brentford responded after the break and equalised in the 63rd minute through Dango Ouattara, who finished from close range after Igor Thiago helped create the opportunity.
Despite conceding, Ajayi remained influential at the heart of Hull’s defence, helping his side withstand pressure as Brentford searched for a winner. His performance earned him the individual accolades, with match coverage highlighting his defensive interventions as a key factor in Hull’s efforts.
The draw extended Hull’s winless league run but preserved their unbeaten home record in the Premier League this season. Brentford, meanwhile, left Yorkshire with a point after recovering from a difficult first half.
For Ajayi, the recognition adds to his growing influence since Hull’s return to the English top flight and underlines the importance of his defensive contribution to the team.
