The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has stripped the Senegal national team of the AFCON 2025 title and awarded the trophy to Morocco following a final ruling by its Appeal Board.
CAF confirmed that Senegal forfeited the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025,, with the match officially recorded as a 3–0 victory in favor of Morocco, in accordance with Article 84 of the competition’s regulations.
The decision comes after an appeal by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), which the Appeal Board upheld while overturning an earlier verdict by the CAF Disciplinary Board. The panel found that Senegal’s conduct during the final breached Article 82, triggering the forfeiture ruling.
- Senegal is formally declared to have forfeited the final.
- Morocco is officially awarded a 3–0 victory.
- The Atlas Lions are confirmed as AFCON 2025 champions.
- All other motions and appeals are dismissed.
The Appeal Board also ruled on several incidents tied to the final:
- Ismaël Saibari was found guilty of misconduct and handed a two-match suspension (one suspended), while his earlier $100,000 fine was omitted
- CAF held the FRMF responsible for the ball boys incident, reducing the fine to $50,000.
*The appeal concerning interference around the OFR/VAR review area was dismissed, with the **$100,000 fine upheld.
A laser incident fine was reduced to $10,000.
CAF stated that all other requests for relief were dismissed, emphasizing its commitment to upholding discipline and the integrity of African football competitions.
The ruling brings an unprecedented end to the AFCON 2025 final, with Morocco crowned champions under extraordinary circumstances.
