Brampton-born Canada international Cyle Larin has received the Key to the City of Brampton, with Mayor Patrick Brown using the occasion to reaffirm the city’s commitment to expanding soccer infrastructure and strengthening its reputation as one of Canada’s leading football communities.
The presentation took place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Brampton City Hall, following an afternoon ceremony at Morris Kerbel Park celebrating six Brampton-connected members of Canada’s men’s national soccer team.
Larin was joined in the broader celebration by Tajon Buchanan, Jonathan Osorio, Liam Millar, Promise David and Jayden Nelson, whose names were attached to six Brampton soccer fields in recognition of their achievements and connections to the city.
The evening ceremony at City Hall was specifically dedicated to Larin, with Mayor Brown presenting the Key to the City and the Canada international delivering an acceptance speech. The municipality describes the Key to the City as a symbolic honour bestowed on a highly valued member of the community or a celebrated or distinguished guest who has made a meaningful impact on the lives of Brampton residents.
Larin’s recognition reflects a career that has established him among Canada’s leading international goalscorers. Canada Soccer identifies him as a Brampton-born and raised player who began his football journey locally before progressing through the professional ranks and onto the Canadian national team.
The forward has represented Canada at major international tournaments, including the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups, while also building a professional career in North America and Europe.
His international record has placed him among Canada’s leading all-time scorers, while his club career has included spells with Orlando City, Club Brugge, Beşiktaş, Mallorca and Southampton.
The honour also forms part of a wider Brampton celebration of the city’s contribution to Canadian soccer. Earlier on September 27, the city officially unveiled the new names of six soccer fields dedicated to Larin and the other five Canada internationals.
Mayor Patrick Brown also used the celebration to underline his administration’s commitment to expanding the city’s soccer facilities. With Brampton already having 191 outdoor soccer fields, alongside indoor turf facilities and the Atiba Hutchinson Soccer Court, Brown pledged to add further soccer fields as the city continues to invest in the sport and respond to demand from its growing football community.
The infrastructure commitment provides an important context to the field-naming ceremony: the city is not only recognising Brampton players who have reached the international stage, but is also linking their achievements to the facilities where future generations of players will develop.
That connection is particularly significant for Larin, whose football journey began in Brampton before taking him to the professional game and eventually to Canada’s national team. The City has also previously invested in new soccer infrastructure, including the Atiba Hutchinson Soccer Court, which Brampton describes as Canada’s first fully lit, outdoor boxed soccer court.
The September 27 programme therefore brought together two elements of Brampton’s soccer story — recognition of players who have carried the city’s name onto the international stage and continued investment in facilities intended to provide opportunities for the next generation.
For Larin, the Key to the City represents the city’s formal recognition of that journey. From developing as a young player in Brampton to becoming a Canada international and one of the country’s leading goalscorers, Larin has now received one of his hometown’s most significant civic honours.
