Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has officially completed a permanent move to Coventry City, bringing an end to his four-year stay at Brentford after playing a pivotal role in the Sky Blues’ return to the Premier League.
The 28-year-old initially joined Coventry on loan during the second half of last season and quickly became a key figure in Frank Lampard’s side. Following the club’s successful promotion campaign, the permanent transfer clause in his loan agreement was activated, with Brentford confirming the move for an undisclosed fee.
Coventry announced the signing on Monday, expressing their delight at securing Onyeka’s services on a long-term basis after his impressive performances in midfield helped drive the club back into England’s top flight.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Onyeka said he was excited to continue his journey with the Sky Blues.
“I’m really happy to now be a Coventry player back in the Premier League. I will give everything to the team, fight for every ball, fight for my teammates and use my experience to help the club. Our goal is to stay in the Premier League and achieve the best possible finish.”
During his loan spell, Onyeka established himself as one of Coventry’s most reliable performers, making 14 Championship appearances and scoring a crucial goal in a dramatic victory over Derby County during the promotion run-in.
Brentford also paid tribute to the Nigerian international, thanking him for his commitment and professionalism throughout his time at the club. Since arriving from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2021, Onyeka made 87 appearances for the Bees across all competitions, including 75 Premier League matches, before loan spells at FC Augsburg and Coventry.
The move marks the next chapter in the career of the Nigeria international, who now returns to the Premier League with Coventry City, where he is expected to play a central role as the newly promoted side prepares for life back among England’s elite.
