The stage is set for a thrilling Egyptian Derby as Zamalek and Al Masry were drawn together in Group D of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2025/26 during the official draw at the studios of CAF Broadcast Partner, SuperSport, on Monday.
Zamalek, the reigning 2023/24 champions, will face a challenging group that also features South African giants Kaizer Chiefs and Zambian side ZESCO United, setting up a high-stakes pool that promises excitement and fierce competition.
Group Highlights:
Group A is led by Algeria’s USM Alger, who face Mali’s Djoliba AC de Bamako, Morocco’s Olympique Club de Safi, and Ivorian side FC San Pedro.
Group B features three-time CAF Champions League winners Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, matched against DR Congo’s AS Maniema, Tanzania’s Azam FC, and Kenyan debutants Nairobi United.
Group C sees Algeria’s CR Belouizdad take on last year’s semi-finalists Stellenbosch FC from South Africa, AS Otoho of Congo, and Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars.
The group stages will kick off on the weekend of November 21–23, with two rounds scheduled before the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025. Action will resume on January 23–25, 2026.
RS Berkane of Morocco enters the tournament as the defending champions, having secured their joint-record third title by defeating Simba SC of Tanzania in last year’s final, equaling Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien on the all-time winners’ list. Zamalek’s two titles and USM Alger’s 2022/23 success make them the only other former champions remaining in the competition.
The winners of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup will claim USD 2 million, while the runners-up will take home USD 1 million. Teams advancing from the group stage are guaranteed at least USD 550,000, with third and fourth-placed sides receiving USD 400,000.
