Guimarães Strikes Again as Arsenal Fight Back to Sink Leeds and Draw Level With Man City

Arsenal produced a second-half comeback to defeat Leeds United 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, October 10, with substitute Bruno Guimarães scoring the decisive goal to end the visitors’ unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

James Justin put Leeds ahead in the 55th minute, but Riccardo Calafiori restored parity seven minutes later before Guimarães completed the turnaround in the 70th minute. The victory lifted the defending champions to 15 points, level with Manchester City at the top of the table, with City holding the advantage on goal difference.

Leeds had frustrated Arsenal for much of the contest and were rewarded when Justin finished a move created by Gabriel Gudmundsson. However, the hosts responded quickly, with Calafiori bringing them level before Guimarães made an immediate impact after coming off the bench.

The Brazilian midfielder finished a flowing attacking move, with Declan Rice providing the crucial flick to set him up for a low strike into the bottom corner. His intervention secured three vital points for Mikel Arteta’s side as they bounced back from a 3-0 defeat to Brighton before the international break.

Guimarães said he was delighted to score an important goal in his first official home game for Arsenal, while stressing the need for the team to respond after falling below its standards in the previous match.

“It feels unbelievable,” he said. “In the last game against Brighton, we were NOT at the level that this shirt demands. Today, the mentality was bouncing back. This is my first official game at home, scoring an important goal, three important points — I’m very happy!”

The winner also continued Guimarães’ early influence in decisive moments for Arsenal. According to the supplied match statistics, he has now scored winning goals against Sunderland and Leeds, helping secure six Premier League points.

For Leeds, the defeat ended a promising unbeaten start. Daniel Farke’s side had competed strongly and looked capable of taking a result from the Emirates, but Arsenal’s response after conceding proved decisive.

Arsenal will take confidence from the comeback as the title race develops, while Leeds must regroup after coming close to another impressive result against the reigning champions.
