Serhou Guirassy delivered another decisive Champions League performance on Tuesday night, scoring twice as Borussia Dortmund defeated Villarreal 3-2 and earning Man of the Match recognition.
The Guinea international struck in the 80th minute and converted a penalty four minutes later to turn a tense encounter at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund’s favour. His double secured BVB’s first three points of the new Champions League campaign.
The performance further underlined Guirassy’s growing reputation as one of the competition’s most prolific forwards.
Third-highest scorer over the last three seasons
Since the beginning of the 2024/25 Champions League campaign, only Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane have scored more goals than Guirassy in the competition.
Guirassy’s Champions League production has been remarkable. He scored 13 goals in the 2024/25 competition, finishing joint-top of the scoring charts alongside Raphinha.
Only Marco Reus ahead of him at Dortmund
The Villarreal brace also moved Guirassy into second place on Borussia Dortmund’s all-time Champions League scoring list. His two goals took his Dortmund Champions League tally to 19, moving him beyond Robert Lewandowski’s 17 for the club.
Only former Dortmund captain Marco Reus, with 24 Champions League goals, remains ahead of him. Guirassy has reached his 19-goal tally in just 25 Champions League appearances for BVB.
That puts the Guinean within five goals of Reus’ club record, with the possibility of overtaking the German legend during the current campaign.
A remarkable rise
Guirassy’s latest achievement is particularly striking given that he only joined Dortmund from Stuttgart in 2024. He has already scored 64 goals in 100 competitive appearances for the German giants, according to Dortmund, highlighting just how quickly he has established himself as one of the club’s most productive forwards. His Champions League numbers have been even more impressive.
At 30, Guirassy is now combining experience, physical presence and elite finishing to become one of Africa’s most prominent performers on Europe’s biggest club stage.

For Guinean football, Guirassy’s continued Champions League exploits provide another major source of pride. His Man of the Match display against Villarreal came on a night when he not only decided the game but strengthened his position among the competition’s leading scorers of the modern era.
