Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League table on Wednesday night with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor. An early goal proved decisive in a tense encounter, as Pep Guardiola’s side capitalised on the chance to leapfrog Arsenal in the title race.
The breakthrough came just five minutes in, when Erling Haaland finished clinically after a well-worked move, handing City an immediate advantage and setting the tone for the night.
City dominated possession thereafter, controlling the tempo and probing for openings. However, Burnley’s disciplined defending kept the scoreline tight, ensuring Haaland’s early strike remained the difference.
Fighting to avoid the drop, Burnley showed resolve and looked to threaten on the counter. Yet their final ball lacked precision, and they were unable to seriously test City’s defence.
The win carries major title implications. City’s victory completes a remarkable turnaround after once trailing Arsenal by nine points, underlining their consistency and resilience in the closing stages of the season.
Arsenal now slip to second place, level on points but behind on goal difference, intensifying the drama in an already tight race.
For Burnley, the defeat confirms relegation, bringing their Premier League campaign to a disappointing end despite a spirited performance.
