MC Alger overturned a two-goal first-leg deficit to defeat Enugu Rangers 3-0 in Algiers on Friday, securing a 3-2 aggregate victory and booking their place in the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
The Algerian champions delivered three second-half goals at the Ali La Pointe Stadium to end Rangers’ hopes of progressing in the 2026/27 competition, despite the Nigerian side arriving with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg in Abeokuta.
After a goalless first half, MC Alger broke through in the 58th minute when Chahreddine Boukholda scored to revive the hosts’ hopes of overturning the tie.
The pressure intensified as the Algerians pursued the two additional goals they needed. Mohamed Bangoura struck in the 84th minute to make it 2-0 on the night and level the aggregate score at 2-2.
With the contest seemingly heading towards a penalty shootout, Soufiane Bayazid scored in the 90+3rd minute to complete the comeback and send MC Alger through with a 3-2 aggregate triumph.
The result marked a painful exit for Rangers, who had secured their first-leg advantage through late goals from Kenneth Igboke, who converted a penalty, and James Emo.
Rangers had also shown resilience in that encounter after being reduced to 10 men early in the match, but they were unable to preserve their lead over the two legs.
MC Alger now advance to the group stage, while Rangers’ continental campaign comes to an end despite their strong performance in the first leg.
