CAF President Patrice Motsepe has reaffirmed CAF’s commitment to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations in East Africa, insisting that the tournament will go ahead in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda despite ongoing preparation challenges.
Motsepe spoke in Dar es Salaam after visiting the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and holding discussions with Tanzania’s football leadership, government officials and the AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee.
“There is no Plan B, there is no Plan C, there never will be a Plan B, there never will be a Plan C. We are working hard and the AFCON will take place,” Motsepe said.
The CAF president acknowledged that the host countries still face challenges but said CAF would continue working with the governments and football authorities to address areas where preparations are behind schedule.
“We’re going to work together on those areas where we are falling behind, we’ll correct them,” he added.
Motsepe’s visit to Tanzania included meetings with Tanzania Football Federation president Wallace Karia, senior government officials and LOC representatives.
He was joined by CAF vice presidents Kurt Okraku and Feizal Sidat, alongside Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu, as CAF continued its high-level monitoring of the tournament preparations.
The CAF president said improvements had been recorded since his previous visit but described the remaining preparation period as urgent, with the tournament less than a year away.
The 2027 AFCON will be staged across Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, making it the first three-country edition of Africa’s flagship national-team competition.
CAF’s ongoing inspections are focused on stadiums, training facilities, accommodation, transport, security, medical services and other operational requirements needed to host the 24-team tournament.
Motsepe is also expected to continue the inspection tour in Kenya as CAF maintains direct engagement with the three host nations ahead of the championship.
