Mourinho Questions Referee Appointment After Controversial Match

José Mourinho has criticised the refereeing after a controversial encounter, describing the situation as “very strange” and questioning the appointment of the match official.

The Portuguese coach pointed out that the referee had been identified a week before the fixture and noted that he was not an international referee. “It’s all been very strange,” Mourinho said.

“The referee was known a week in advance… and he isn’t an international referee, which suggests he isn’t exactly a top-tier official.”

Mourinho also suggested that the official struggled to cope with the circumstances surrounding the match.

“The poor guy came here and couldn’t handle the pressure.”

His comments are likely to add to the debate surrounding the officiating and referee appointments following the fixture. Mourinho expressed his frustration further:

“I thought I’d have found a different La Liga. But I didn’t. 𝐖𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭. Winning La Liga? If they leave us in peace, calm… then there’s time”
