Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has resigned as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), bringing his three-year, 11-month tenure at the helm of Nigerian football to an end.
Gusau announced his decision on Thursday during a World Press Conference at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja, ending days of uncertainty over his position.
The outgoing NFF president said his resignation followed consultations with his family, friends and key stakeholders in Nigerian football.
Gusau also disclosed that he had informed members of the NFF Executive Committee of his decision and advised them to consider their respective positions.
He stressed, however, that each Executive Committee member would independently decide whether to remain in office or also step aside.
His resignation comes amid heightened scrutiny of the NFF following a series of disappointing results by Nigeria’s national teams and growing calls for reforms within the country’s football administration.
