In a dramatic Turkish Süper Lig encounter, Paul Onuachu captained Trabzonspor and delivered a mixed night of heroics and heartbreak as his side played out a 1–1 draw away to Antalyaspor at Corendon Airlines Park.
With the captain’s armband around his arm, the Nigerian striker was the focal point of Trabzonspor’s attack. He stepped up in the 53rd minute to confidently convert a penalty, drawing his side level after Antalyaspor had taken a first-half lead through Sander van de Streek just before the break.
The goal was Onuachu’s 13th in the Turkish Super Lig this season, moving him joint-top of the league’s scoring charts alongside Başakşehir forward Eldor Shomurodov.
In the closing stages, Trabzonspor were awarded a second penalty, offering Onuachu the chance to complete a brace and secure all three points. However, his spot-kick was saved by Antalyaspor goalkeeper Julián, marking the first penalty miss of his Süper Lig career after previously converting all his attempts.
The result leaves Trabzonspor in third place four points adrift of league leaders Galatasaray, and represents a missed opportunity in the title race.
Fellow Nigerian Chibuike Iwaiwu also featured in the match, impressing with a solid and composed defensive performance for Trabzonspor. The Nigerian centre-back was noted for maintaining defensive shape, making key interceptions, and helping his side withstand periods of pressure while chasing the game.
