PSG Defender Hakimi to Face Trial as French Prosecutors Advance Rape Case

By Kazeem Ajibola Shoyebo

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has been formally referred to a criminal court in France following an ongoing investigation into a rape allegation first reported in 2023.

Judicial authorities in the Hauts-de-Seine region concluded their investigation and determined that the case should proceed to trial, where the court will evaluate the evidence and deliver a legal ruling.

Hakimi has consistently denied the accusation and maintains that he did not commit any criminal offence.

The case originates from a complaint filed by a woman who alleged that Hakimi raped her at his home after the two connected via social media and arranged to meet in person.

According to the complainant, the encounter became non-consensual after she arrived at his residence.

Hakimi has disputed that version of events, stating that their interaction did not involve sexual assault.

In comments reported by France Info, the footballer said he welcomed the opportunity to defend himself in court.

“Today, an accusation of rape is enough to justify a trial, even though I contest it and everything shows that it is false,” Hakimi said.

“I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

Hakimi was initially placed under formal investigation in March 2023 but has remained free while the judicial process continued.

Neither Hakimi nor his club, Paris Saint-Germain, has announced any sporting sanctions in connection with the case.

The criminal court proceedings will now represent the next and most critical phase in determining the outcome of the allegations.

Hakimi remains presumed innocent under French law unless proven guilty.
