Ryan Alebiosu Expected to Recover in Time for AFCON 2025 Knockout Stage

Super Eagles defender Ryan Alebiosu is on track to recover from a leg injury sustained during Nigeria’s final group-stage match against Uganda at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The 24-year-old right-back, who made his senior debut in that match, suffered a deep cut on his right leg but remains with the team in Morocco as he continues his rehabilitation.

Team Media Officer Promise Efoghe confirmed that Alebiosu attended Friday’s training session but did not participate in drills, as he continues his recovery process. Despite the injury, medical assessments have indicated that Alebiosu is expected to be fit for selection in the upcoming knockout stages of the tournament.

The Super Eagles are set to face Mozambique in the Round of 16 on Monday at the Complexe Sportif de Fès. With Alebiosu’s anticipated return, the team aims to bolster its defensive options as they progress further in the competition.

In related news, striker Cyriel Dessers has been ruled out of the tournament due to a thigh injury and has returned to his club for further treatment. [2]
