Saints Shock Arsenal as Charles’ Late Strike Dumps Gunners Out of FA Cup

Southampton produced a stunning FA Cup upset, defeating Arsenal 2-1 at St Mary’s Stadium, with Shea Charles scoring a decisive 85th-minute winner to send the Championship side into the semi-finals and deepen the Gunners’ recent woes.

The result marks Arsenal’s second consecutive defeat, following their Carabao Cup loss to Manchester City, as their hopes of silverware this season continue to fade.

Southampton struck first in the 35th minute through Ross Stewart, capitalizing on defensive lapses to stun the visitors and seize early control of the quarter-final clash.

Despite dominating spells of possession, Arsenal struggled to break down a disciplined Saints side that remained compact and dangerous on the counter.

The Gunners found a lifeline in the second half when Viktor Gyökeres equalised in the 68th minute, injecting belief into Mikel Arteta’s side and appearing to push the tie towards extra time.

However, their resurgence proved short-lived. With the game finely poised, substitute Shea Charles struck in the 85th minute, finishing off a swift attacking move to restore Southampton’s lead and seal a famous victory.

The late goal sparked wild celebrations among the home supporters, as the Saints completed one of the biggest upsets of the FA Cup campaign.

Arsenal’s defeat highlights a worrying dip in form at a crucial stage of the season. Once chasing multiple trophies, they now face the reality of back-to-back cup exits and mounting pressure in their remaining competitions.

Manager Mikel Arteta’s side looked disjointed at times, undone by defensive errors and an inability to convert control into goals.
