Tottenham Sack Thomas Frank After Season Spirals

Tottenham Hotspur have officially sacked Thomas Frank as head coach, the North London club announced on Wednesday morning, following a prolonged slump in league form that has left Spurs dangerously close to the Premier League relegation zone.

The 52-year-old Dane departs with Spurs currently 16th in the Premier League, just five points clear of danger, after a shocking sequence of results that saw the team win only two of their last 17 matches in domestic competition.

Frank’s final game in charge ended in a 2–1 home defeat to Newcastle United, a result that compounded mounting pressure and fan unrest at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Supporters had grown increasingly vocal in recent weeks, even calling for former manager Mauricio Pochettino’s return during matches.

In its official statement, Spurs expressed gratitude for Frank’s efforts but acknowledged that a change in leadership was necessary at this stage of the campaign:

The Club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today… Results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.”

Frank had taken over the reins in June 2025, replacing Ange Postecoglou. Despite some success in European competition, including steering Spurs into the Champions League last 16,  his domestic record ultimately proved untenable.

Tottenham are now working through several contingency plans for his replacement, with names being discussed both for interim stewardship and as long-term candidates to steady the club’s faltering Premier League campaign.
