UEFA and CONCACAF have formalised a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), deepening cooperation in a move aimed at accelerating football development across Europe, North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
The agreement, part of UEFA’s broader strategy to strengthen global partnerships, outlines a multi-year framework focused on youth development, knowledge exchange and institutional growth. Officials say the deal reflects a shared ambition to build stronger pathways for players, coaches and administrators across both confederations.
A central pillar of the agreement is the expansion of youth football initiatives. Under the MoU, teams from CONCACAF member associations will gain opportunities to participate in selected UEFA youth tournaments, providing exposure to elite-level competition and fostering intercultural exchange.
The initiative is designed to bridge developmental gaps and accelerate the growth of emerging talent, particularly in regions where access to top-tier competition is limited.
The partnership also prioritises technical collaboration, including structured knowledge-sharing programmes and professional development opportunities. These will involve joint workshops, conferences and observer programmes at major club and international competitions.
Such exchanges are expected to enhance expertise in coaching, scouting and performance analysis, aligning standards more closely across both regions.
Improving technical standards is another key objective. The agreement promotes cooperation in coach education, with provisions for mutual recognition of certifications and expanded training opportunities.
Refereeing development will also benefit, with increased chances for match officials to gain international experience through exchange initiatives. In addition, both confederations will collaborate on strengthening club licensing systems, ensuring alignment with globally recognised best practices.
The MoU builds on existing collaboration frameworks, including UEFA’s “UEFA Together” programme, which has previously connected European and CONCACAF associations in elite youth development projects.
Officials from both organisations emphasise that the agreement goes beyond short-term gains, focusing instead on sustainable growth, governance improvements and long-term capacity building.
The UEFA–CONCACAF partnership mirrors similar agreements UEFA has established with other confederations, reinforcing a trend toward greater intercontinental cooperation in football governance and development.
By combining resources, expertise and infrastructure, both bodies aim to create a more interconnected global football ecosystem—one that offers wider opportunities and raises standards across all levels of the game.
As football continues to expand globally, the renewed alliance signals a strategic push to ensure that growth is not only widespread but also structured, collaborative and sustainable.
