Following OGC Nice’s 3-1 defeat to Lorient on Sunday, marking the club’s sixth consecutive loss, chaos erupted at the team’s training ground as hundreds of furious supporters gathered to express their frustration. The situation took a dark turn when a group of ultras confronted the players, resulting in violent assaults on forwards Terem Moffi and Jérémie Boga.
According to multiple sources, around 400 fans awaited the team’s return at the club’s training facility. Upon arrival, tensions quickly escalated. Two supporters boarded the team bus, and violence broke out when players began disembarking. Moffi and Boga were both subjected to physical attacks, including punching, kicking, and spitting. Moffi was reportedly grabbed by the hair and had to be shielded by goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf and others to escape the crowd.
OGC Nice’s sporting director Florian Maurice was also targeted and required security assistance. While some players, such as manager Franck Haise and captain Melvin Bard, were spared abuse, the incident left the squad shaken.
Both Moffi and Boga have been granted medical leave to recover from the ordeal, Moffi for one week, Boga for five days, and have filed police reports against the alleged perpetrators. The club has since issued a firm statement condemning the violence:
“The club understands the frustration created by recent poor performances, but the excesses we witnessed are unacceptable. OGC Nice offers full support to the individuals affected and strongly denounces these acts.”
The French players’ union (UNFP) also condemned the attack, calling it an intolerable violation of player safety.
As investigations continue, the incident underscores rising tensions between supporters and clubs, raising serious questions about security, player protection, and the boundaries of fan expression in professional football.
