Zambia’s national team captain, Fashion Sakala, has been hospitalized in Rabat after experiencing abdominal discomfort, dizziness, and general weakness during a routine medical check. The incident occurred ahead of the Chipolopolo Boys’ decisive Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Group A match against hosts Morocco.
Team doctor Wesley Ngongo confirmed that Sakala was taken to Hôpital Universitaire International Mohammed VI in the Moroccan capital around 12:30 PM local time. As a result, the Saudi Arabia–based striker has been officially ruled out of this evening’s fixture, a significant setback for Zambia in their quest to advance in the tournament.
Head coach Moses Sichone is now tasked with adjusting his lineup in Sakala’s absence. The team will need to rely on other key players to step up in this critical match.
Sakala’s leadership and experience have been pivotal for the Chipolopolo Boys, and his absence will undoubtedly be felt on the pitch. The Zambian Football Association has yet to provide further details on his condition or potential return to the tournament.
The match against Morocco is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 PM local time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. Both teams are vying for a spot in the knockout stages of AFCON 2025.
