Barcelona have officially completed the signing of Spain international Rodri from Manchester City, with the midfielder committing his future to the Catalan club until June 2030.
The agreement was confirmed by Barcelona on Tuesday, with the club announcing that Rodrigo Hernández Cascante, popularly known as Rodri, has signed a four-year contract after reaching an agreement with Manchester City for his transfer.
The move brings the 30-year-old midfielder’s trophy-laden seven-year spell at Manchester City to an end. Rodri joined City in 2019 and established himself as one of the world’s leading holding midfielders, playing a pivotal role in the club’s domestic and European successes.
His honours include four Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League, while he was also instrumental in City’s historic 2022/23 treble. Rodri was awarded the 2024 Ballon d’Or after another outstanding campaign.
Barcelona’s announcement described Rodri as a midfielder renowned for his tactical intelligence, composure in possession, ability to regain the ball and precision in passing.
The transfer is being widely reported at around €60 million plus €15 million in potential add-ons, although the exact financial structure was not detailed in Barcelona’s official announcement.
Rodri’s arrival represents a major statement from Barcelona as the club strengthens Hansi Flick’s midfield. The Spain international will join a squad containing several of his national-team colleagues and is expected to provide experience, control and defensive balance in the centre of the pitch.
The move also ends speculation over Rodri’s future after he was linked with a possible move to Real Madrid. Barcelona ultimately secured his signature, bringing one of the world’s most accomplished midfielders back to Spain.
Official contract: Barcelona until 30 June 2030.
