In what can only be described as an unmitigated disaster, the Super Eagles of Nigeria were utterly humiliated 3-0 by Guinea-Bissau in their AFCON 2027 Group L qualifier. Facing a team ranked 132nd in the world, Eric Chelle’s men delivered a toothless, disorganized performance at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro, leaving Nigerian football fans absolutely fuming.
Guinea-Bissau drew first blood when Franculino Djú fired the opening warning shot. Cutting in from the right flank, he left the Nigerian backline chasing shadows before unleashing a left-footed rocket past a helpless Stanley Nwabali.
The nightmare deepened when Captain Mama Baldé produced a moment of absolute magic and pure embarrassment for Nigeria. Baldé effortlessly dribbled past Bright Osayi-Samuel, leaving the defender frozen, before beautifully curling his effort into the far corner to double the advantage.
With the Super Eagles completely broken, Djalo struck deep into stoppage time to put the final nail in Nigeria’s coffin, sealing a historic 3-0 victory for the hosts.
With Victor Osimhen sidelined due to injury, Nigeria’s attack looked completely devoid of ideas while the defense was completely exposed. This isn’t just a bruised ego, it’s a massive logistical problem. Because Tanzania automatically qualifies as a tournament co-host, only one automatic ticket remains up for grabs in Group L. Guinea-Bissau now sits firmly in the driver’s seat, while the Super Eagles are left facing an uphill battle to save their AFCON 2027 campaign.
