Lionel Messi found the net, but his goal was not enough as Inter Miami suffered a 2–1 home defeat to Toronto FC in MLS action.
After a goalless first half, Toronto broke the deadlock in the 59th minute through Josh Sargent, before Derrick Etienne Jr. doubled the visitors’ advantage just three minutes later.
Messi pulled one back for Inter Miami in the 82nd minute, scoring his 14th MLS goal of the season after being set up by Rodrigo De Paul. Despite late pressure from the hosts, Toronto held on for a famous victory.
The defeat leaves Inter Miami with a 0-2-2 record in August, while Toronto secured their first-ever away victory against Miami and extended their unbeaten run to four matches.
For Messi, the goal continues an impressive personal scoring run, but the Argentine superstar could not prevent Inter Miami from suffering another setback in their MLS campaign.
