World Cup 2026 Resale Prices Plunge Across North America

By Rasheed Adewuyi, New York

Ticket prices for the upcoming 2026 football tournament in North America are beginning to cool after months of intense demand and inflated resale listings. Fresh market data released in early May indicates that fans looking to attend matches in the United States and Canada are now seeing noticeably lower prices across much of the schedule.

The decline has been widespread. Resale tracking shows that the lowest available ticket price, commonly called the “get-in” price, has dropped for 87 of the tournament’s 91 matches hosted across the two countries. The trend suggests that sellers who initially expected massive profits are now lowering prices as the event draws closer.

Average resale costs have also moved downward at a rapid pace. Just one month ago, the typical ticket was selling for around $720. That figure has since fallen to roughly $567, representing a decline of more than one-fifth in only 30 days. Market analysts say the adjustment reflects a more realistic balance between fan demand and available inventory.

Even some of the tournament’s marquee games are seeing price corrections. The United States’ opening match against Paraguay in Los Angeles remains one of the most expensive contests during the group stage, but the cheapest available seats have now slipped under the $1,000 mark after previously sitting much higher.

Meanwhile, fans searching for more affordable options are finding opportunities in several group-stage matchups. Games including Cape Verde versus Saudi Arabia in Houston and Austria against Jordan in Santa Clara now feature entry-level tickets priced below $200, a major contrast to the premium costs associated with higher-profile fixtures.

Host venues have experienced different levels of decline depending on demand. Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara recorded the steepest month-over-month drop, with ticket prices falling nearly 30 percent over the last several weeks. Houston’s NRG Stadium has also seen significant decreases, particularly for matches viewed as lower-demand events.

Although prices are trending downward for now, industry experts believe the market could shift again once the tournament gets closer and traveling supporters finalize plans. Historically, excitement surrounding major international competitions often creates late buying waves. Still, the recent drop is giving many fans renewed hope that attending matches in person may become more financially realistic than it appeared earlier this year.
