Rodri says he is ready to return to action for Barcelona after undergoing surgery, insisting he feels fit and is awaiting the green light from head coach Hansi Flick.
The midfielder also dismissed suggestions that Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal tried to influence his decision, saying the club’s players understood the sensitivity of his choice and did not put pressure on him.
“Did Lamine try to convince me? No,” Rodri said. “They didn’t put any kind of pressure on me.”
Rodri explained that decisions over a player’s future are personal and should be respected by fellow professionals, particularly when they involve questions about where a player wants to continue his career.
The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner also played down concerns surrounding his recent operation, saying he is already prepared to resume training.
“I’m all ready to play! The operation was nothing. Hopefully I can train tomorrow, put myself under Hansi’s orders as soon as possible.”
Rodri’s comments come as he prepares to begin work under Flick, with the midfielder leaving the final decision on his return to the Barcelona manager and medical staff.
The Spaniard also acknowledged the influence of former Barcelona and Spain midfielder Sergio Busquets, describing him as a major role model and welcoming comparisons between the two midfielders.
“For me, Busquets has always been a great role model. It’s a privilege that they compare me to him.”
Rodri’s return would represent a major boost for Barcelona as the club looks to integrate one of the world’s leading midfielders into Flick’s squad following his move from Manchester City.
